I've yet to hear many (or should that be any) debut LP's as strong as Unknown Pleasures. The production is incredible from start to finish (well kind of...but we'll get back to that later). There are a few weakish tracks that are saved by this alone - ala "I Remember Nothing". Without Hannett behind the mixing desk it is doubtful that the raw emotion behind the lyrics would be captured so vividly.

I don't really like the version of She's Lost Control on Unknown Pleasures. It doesn't have the same energy as their live performances. It's far too restrained in my opinion. Shadowplay however is captured perfectly, as is the spectacular New Dawn Fades which probably has one of the most depressing lyrics known to man.

Ahem....I seem to be working backwards here with the tracklisting. Not to worry. The unusual thing about Unknown Pleasures is that each track seems to melt into oneanother. Don't get me wrong - this is far from a concept album. It's just hard to imagine the album without any particular track. It blends into one perfectly.
