Peter Hook / Hooky

Peter Hook : Bass and backing vocals.
Nickname : Hooky
Famous for :
- Swinging his bass in an intimidating manner.
- Shifting countless copies of Unknown Pleasures across town in his van to help with promotion.
- Eating Salt and Vinegar crisps and licking his fingers afterwards.
- Generally annoying Barney
- Helping bring the "playing the bass as lead guitar" style into the mainstream
- For having a beard for most of his life.
- For being extremely frosty to journalists during the Joy Division days.
- He'd later go on to sing in 2 New Order songs namely "Doubts Even Here" and "Dreams Never End".
It's hard to mistake Hooky's trademark bass hooks. I particularly love the bassline to She's Lost Control. It's magnificent. Captivating to say the least. Even with something as simple as his 2 note line in Transmission it always proved to be enough to give songs that extra bit of drive - almost always fusing perfectly together with Steve Morris's cold drum patterns.
I'm slightly disappointed that he didn't go on to sing more tracks in the New Order Movement era. Ok his voice might not have been the strongest, but it had a peculiar edge to it. It suited Dreams Never End perfectly. I guess New Order had to move away from a deeper sounding vocalist to escape the endless comparisons with Joy Division.
