Ian Curtis Profile

Role In Band : Lead singer and occasional guitarist.
Influences : According to Deborah Curtis's biography on Ian Curtis - Ian was inspired a lot during his last few months by crooners such as Frank Sinatra and this show's on a lot of the bands later material - not least Love Will Tear Us Apart. It's strange how Ian's voice progressed over the years he was in the band. During their days as Waraw - Curtis sang much higher. This can be quite surprising especially if you are accustomed to only the band's famous songs.
Legacy : Ian Curtis's voice is pretty indescribable. Many rock journalists have tried to do so over the years but have failed miserably. It's best not to try to describe it really. It's much easier to listen. Well I wouldn't say easier. Closer isn't a particularly easy album to listen to. Hopefully you get what I mean
It's been said many times before but Curtis's influence can be seen more than ever especially with the recent wave of bands such as the Killers, Interpol and Editors. It's strange to see these bands so blatantly mimic Joy Division's sound - particularly Curtis's voice.
